Summer Heat – When to Leave Your Pet at Home

When it comes to our pets many of us love to take them with us everywhere! However, when it comes to taking our beloved fur babies with us during the summer time…it is not always safe for them.

Here are some questions you should ask yourself to help you determine if you should take your fur babies with or leave them at home:

How hot is it out?

Always check the weather. If it is going to be a very hot and humid day, you may want to consider leaving your pet at home in the comfortable AC.

Will I be Outside Most of the Time?

While Fido may love the outdoors it is important to consider how much time they will be outdoors in hot and humid conditions. Since they cannot tell you that they are getting overheated, dehydrated, etc. you may be better leaving your furbaby at home if you have an entire day planned in the heat.

Will There be Easy Access to Plenty of Water?

Whether we are talking drinking water or just water to cool down in, access to water is definitely a determining factor in taking your pet with or leaving them home. For example, if you are planning to hit up a local food truck fair that is in the city, in direct sunlight, and with little water access you might want to leave your pup at home. However, if you are planning a trip to the lake where your furry friend can easily take a dip to cool off and have plenty of drinking water, bring ’em with!

When it doubt…leave your fur babies at home in the cool air conditioning with plenty of water. We know it’s hard to when they look at you with those big sad eyes…but it is ultimately for their safety.
